Jurassic Park' Author Michael Crichton Dead At 66
NEW YORK (CBS) ― Author Michael Crichton, the creative force behind the "Jurassic Park" series and the TV show "ER", has died. He was 66.
Entertainment Tonight reported on the writer's death on its Web site, ETonline.com. Citing family sources, ET reports he was waging a private battle against cancer.
Crichton is best known for being the author of science-fiction novels such as "Jurassic Park" and its sequel "The Lost World," which have sold more than 150 million copies worldwide.
"While the world knew him as a great storyteller that challenged our preconceived notions about the world around us -- and entertained us all while doing so -- his wife Sherri, daughter Taylor, family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes," says a statement from the family posted by ET. "He did this with a wry sense of humor that those who were privileged to know him personally will never forget."
